MSITM Adjunct

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Central Methodist University is accepting applications for adjunct (part-time) instructors to teach in our Master of Science in Information Technology Management program. Adjunct instructors in the executive format program will teach courses online with an added residency component. The executive format requires a one-weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) residency in each course at the CMU location in Fayette, MO. Adjunct instructors in the online program will teach graduate technology management courses in an online format. After review, approved applications will be retained for five years, and qualified applicants will be notified of employment opportunities as they become available.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Upon acceptance of the offer to teach a course, adjunct faculty must:

  1. teach assigned courses during the scheduled hours (if applicable) and for the full term of appointment and supervise applied learning coursework (if applicable), such as practicums, internships, or research projects.
  2. establish and engage in a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  3. respond to student inquiries in a timely manner (within 24 hours) and provide reasonable assistance as well as be available to meet with students via telephone as requested.
  4. provide substantial student feedback and a quick turnaround on grades.
  5. provide outreach to students, academic advisors, and other institutional liaisons regularly to ensure student success.
  6. enforce university policies, procedures, and rules for academic integrity and student conduct, and inform the appropriate university official of any violations.
  7. exhibit respectful and ethical behavior with students, colleagues, and administrators.
  8. report grades by the date required by the Office of the Provost and adhere to the policies and conduct required by the Adjunct Faculty Manual.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:    

 

Candidates should hold a terminal degree in Information Technology, Management, Business, or a related field. Extensive professional experience in an associated field and higher education teaching experience are highly desired. Applicants must reside in one of the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, or Washington.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

  1. Operate a computer and telephone.
  2. Able to use a computer for periods long enough to sufficiently complete the duties of the position.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Sufficient competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as other software required to teach online, such as Internet browsers.
  2. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  3. Ability to follow written and verbal procedures and instructions.
  4. Skills in interpersonal interactions, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  5. Skills in organization and time management.
  6. Ability to work with a diverse mix of other individuals, programs, departments, and industry professionals.

 

OTHER INFORMATION AND ATTRIBUTES:

  1. Must have reliable Internet access.
  2. Must have consistent access to a computer enabled with an Internet browser, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  3. Must have access to reliable telephone service as needed to satisfy student requests.
